Deep Field spelling well ahead of autumn campaign

Michael Hawkes reported emerging sprinter Deep Field is enjoying the fruits of spring in the spelling paddock and is set to contest the country’s premier sprints in the autumn.

Deep Field remains undefeated from five starts for the Hawkes Racing team and was able to end his spring campaign with a strong win in the Group II Linlithgow Stakes (1200m) at Flemington earlier this month.

Hawkes said the four-year-old has done well in the weeks since and will be returning to the stable in the near future with the intention of "chasing an elusive Group I.”

"He’s enjoying his spell and looks fantastic – he’s put on weight and we’re very happy,” Hawkes said.

"We’ll get him back and see how he goes but he’ll be in those sprints (The Galaxy, TJ Smith Stakes).

"Where he starts and where he stops are two different things but for him it’s about keeping him intact because he’s a stallion and worth a lot of money at the moment.”

Deep Field is a brother to this year’s Group I Caulfield Guineas winner Shooting To Win and his stallion prospects are sure to be enhanced should he add a Group I to his resume.
