Black Caviar's brother makes it two from two

Regally bred colt Moshe did nothing to diminish his burgeoning reputation when he stretched his unbeaten streak to two at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

The brother to Australia's champion sprinter Black Caviar failed to jump cleanly and wasn't entirely comfortable on a rain-soaked track, but proved too good against older horses.

After his tardy beginning, the Team Hawkes-trained three-year-old drove through to lead the 1000-metre dash before kicking clear on the point of the turn.

Second elect Locke's Choice closed to three-quarters-of-a-length on the line, but the $30,000 Mayoral Charity Community Plate was always headed Moshe's way.

“The other horse was coming, but as soon as Dwayne (Dunn) gave him a couple of backhanders it was the sign of a good horse that lowered his head and put his ears back and he really knuckled down,” co-trainer Wayne Hawkes said.

“He doesn't know that he's got a sister that's a superstar, he's doing a good job....I know this bloke's not a two-year-old, but he acts like one.”

Dunn said the win was better than it looked because the horse was not at home on wet ground.

“He probably didn't handle the track tonight. He travelled really well and he's got a better turn of foot of the corner than that, he just skated a bit,” the jockey explained.

Future plans for the son of Victoria's premier Bel Esprit are not set in concrete, with the stable to consider several options over the coming week.

Moshe's win capped a big night indeed for the Hawkes stable which also produced Encosta De Lago colt Happy Patrick for an impressive debut victory over 1200-metres.

The three-year-old, who was also ridden by Dunn, started $2.60 favourite after being backed in from double figure odds when fixed odds betting opened on Thursday.
