Bowman unstoppable at Rosehill

Hugh Bowman chalked up his third winner from as many races at Rosehill on Saturday when he piloted the Hawkes Racing-trained Chivvy to victory in the Sharp Handicap (1200m).

Chivvy was planted out three-wide initially. Bowman went to sit outside the early leader Tabasco Kitten but Chad Schofield on Pink Power attempted to keep him out three-deep.

Bowman wouldn’t hear of it and pushed Schofield back onto the fence. He remained quiet on Chivvy until Shaun Guymer on Tabasco Kitten attempted to pinch the race at the top of the straight.

Chivvy responded and went straight past Tabasco Kitten. The daughter of Flying Spur went to the line with ease, defeating Tabasco Kitten with Debelle getting home for third after settling second last.

"It was a good performance. I predicted Shaun (Guymer) would probably go and lead but was a bit worried for a moment that he wasn’t going to," Bowman said.

"The pace was strong. The backmarkers had their chance. It was a dominant performance."

The jockey said he was rapt to have ridden the first three winners on the card but owed much of his fortune to his neighbour.

"I must thank my neighbour Ray. When I got in my car (this morning) it wouldn’t start so I’m in Ray’s ute," Bowman said.
