He's won an Australian Derby and a BMW but now the Hawkes Racing-trained Fiumicino can boast he's earned more than $3 million in prizemoney after leading all the way in Saturday's Listed ATC Cup (2200m) at Warwick Farm.
The nine-year-old has been "close to retirement" on several occasions throughout his illustrious career but provided connections with a reason to press on over the summer months.
"There's been a few times when we've thought of it (retirement)," Michael Hawkes said.
"But he's just proven he's still got that zip and we'll press on now to the Christmas Cup and Summer Cup."
Hawkes conceded Saturday's $100,000 event was a far cry from the Group I glory of the Australian Derby and BMW, which between them are worth $3.75 million.
"We've had to drop him back in grade but to see him get another win under belt is great," he said.
Jockey Nash Rawiller sent Fiumicino straight to the front with race favourite Moriarty settling in the one out, one back position with second favourite Ward on his inside.
Ward got a dream split and looked a $1.10 chance of winning at the 200 metres but compounded while Fiumicino kicked back and the son of Zabeel proved too strong for King Utah and Moriarty.
