Fiumicino Wins BMW

Fiumicino raced back into Group 1 form with a tough well deserved victory in the 2009 BMW Stakes (Group 1) during the Spring of 2008/2009.

Even though, Fiumicino was successful in his Spring campaign, the BMW win showed that he was truly back in form.

John Hawkes personal expertise was instrumental in Fiumicino's superior fitness on the biggest day of racing in Sydney.

The win complements John Hawkes previous BMW winners that include Freemason, Curata Storm and Octagonal.

Several of Hawkes' BMW winners have outstayed more heavily favoured rivals illustrating his excellent ability to prepare top quality stayers. Fiumicino wore down the well performed multiple Group 1 winner Theseo. Not so long ago, Freemason proved superior to Northerly in an upset victory, whilst Curata Storm was successful as a rank outsider.
