Hawkes soar in commanding display

Is there a more in-form stable than Team Hawkes?

During the month of December, the training partnership of Hall of Famer John Hawkes and his sons Michael and Wayne had nine winners from less than 20 starters - a remarkable strike rate.

And their hot summer winning streak continued at Royal Randwick yesterday when their only starter, Lone Command, led all the way in the AJC Corporate Membership Handicap (1600m).

Lone Command ($8) was well ridden in front by Sydney's leading apprentice Josh Adams before scooting clear of Fusakeo ($9) to win by two lengths, with Gazza Guru ($31) finishing a close third.

"We had nine winners during December and that was our best month since we started the training partnership," Michael Hawkes said.

"It has taken a while to get everything set up but our owners have been very patient and we are getting the results now."

Lone Command was one of the stable's December winners, scoring easily at Rosehill three weeks ago, yet he was able to start at each-way odds yesterday. Hawkes revealed some of the best gallopers are returning to trackwork in preparation for autumn carnival campaigns.

"Love Conquers All is already back in work, Dao Dao returns to the stable on Tuesday and Maluckyday is still about another week away," Hawkes added.
