Queensland is always an attractive destination for tourists. However in winter, it’s a magnet for the best horses in training throughout Australia and New Zealand. The combination of relatively warmer weather and attractive prize money ensures that the Queensland Winter carnival is among the most competitive racing in the Australian racing calendar.
Hawkes Racing have been involved in many Queensland Winter Carnivals. Their accomplishments include winning the Queensland Derby on four occasions with Tenor, Dodge, Freemason and Toulouse Lautrec.
This year, Hawkes Racing perfectly placed two gallopers for the Queensland Carnival. Michael Hawkes accompanied recent Kembla Grange winner Zoot Suit and tough stayer Rainbow Styling for the journey north. Rainbow Styling returned home with a win in the $50,000 Ipswich Mile and a competitive fourth in the Tattersall’s Cup. Zoot Suit made it two wins in a row with a 2 length victory at the Sunshine Coast.
