Solid start to Inglis Premier

Almost $9 million changed hands in the first day of trading at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne on Monday.

The early sales topper is a colt by Fastnet Rock that was secured by the Hawkes Racing team for $310,000.

The colt is from the Sadler’s Wells mare Gypsy Princess, a half-sister to the Irish Oaks runner-up Sunspangled.

Day one of the sale saw 132 yearlings sold, 76 percent of those catalogued, with the average sitting at $67,909.

“It’s pleasing to see such a strong buying bench assembled at the sale and given last year’s opening session also averaged around the $68,000 mark, we are pleased with the way this year’s sale has started,” Inglis Director Peter Heagney said.

“Similar to other sales held so far this year, the better-credentialed youngsters were all keenly sought after.

“Buyers will be aware that we have some extremely nice horses still to come over the remainder of the sale and I think we have more high profile yearlings on the next two days than we had in today’s session."

The sale continues from 11am on Tuesday and runs through Wednesday and Thursday.
